Why Aspenwood Is Going All In on Technology—With Purpose
In 2025, The Aspenwood Company is deepening its investment in technology—not just to keep up, but to lead with intention. At a time when “AI” is stamped on nearly every innovation, we’re asking a different question: Does this make life better for our residents and teams?
“I just want to make sure that it’s efficient and it’s going to benefit our residents,” said Heather Tussing, President of The Aspenwood Company, in a recent interview with Senior Housing News.
That guiding principle is shaping how we adopt and implement new technology across our 20 communities—and how we support both the people we care for and the teams who serve them.
Enhancing Lives Through Smarter Tools
We’re not chasing trends; we’re building thoughtfully.
Take our newest AI systems: We’re already using artificial intelligence to better understand resident preferences, streamline move-in processes, and support personalized experiences. This is especially powerful when applied to our sales efforts, where early insights into a family’s “why” allow our teams to provide a truly meaningful introduction to life at Aspenwood.
We’re also piloting a number of resident-focused technologies:
Amba Health and Care: Using sensors placed in non-intrusive spaces (like under mattresses or near doors), Amba helps detect falls, changes in wellness, and sleeping patterns. “It can give people a voice who don’t have a voice,” Tussing shared, highlighting how early detection of issues like UTIs or changes in sleep can lead to faster, better care.
Inspiren: Aiding in fall detection and care coordination through smart systems that help create safer environments for residents—especially in memory care settings.
Meela Inc.: Through structured phone calls designed to reduce loneliness, we’re bringing added connection to our independent living residents. It’s simple, human-centered, and backed by tech.
SeniorLytics: By piloting this system in our home office, we can now track care quality, census, and financial data in real-time. The result? Our leaders can spend less time compiling reports and more time in communities coaching and connecting with teams.
Purpose Over Hype
One of the things that sets Aspenwood apart is our clarity: We don’t roll out new tools just because they’re flashy.
“Anybody can say anything,” Tussing noted. “I want to make sure that it actually does what it says, and that it is what it is.”
That’s why we partner directly with community teams and vendor reps during pilots, ensuring questions are answered, systems are working, and outcomes are measured.
We’re also listening to what our residents and families need—because they are the ones who matter most.
Tech that Supports People, Not Replaces Them
While we’re embracing remote monitoring, enhanced analytics, and AI-assisted workflows, it’s never about replacing the human touch. In fact, it’s the opposite.
“Technology is the answer to a lot of that—not because technology takes the place of people, but it can free up people,” said Tussing.
More time to talk with families. More time to listen to and care for our residents. More time to lead engaging programs. More time to coach, mentor, and grow together.
Looking Ahead
With new communities like Crestmoor at Green Hills opening this year, a growing leadership training program, and a continued focus on resident-centered care, The Aspenwood Company is using technology not to lead for its own sake—but to lead with heart.
We’re excited about the partnerships and pilots underway, and we’ll continue to prioritize the tools that make our environments safer, our teams stronger, and our residents’ lives fuller.
